At various times it was possible to see other operators vehicles at Chelsham Garage, this could be to cover a shortage of servicable buses, or was often because of a defect or break down, when Chelsham engineers would be summoned for assistance, leading to the vehicle being brought up to Chelsham for attention. At other times it could be when buses or coaches on visits to Croydon for shopping trips, or theatre shows would lay-over at Chelsham before the return journey. In July 1982 City of Portsmouth Leyland National 2's were seen at Chelsham Garage, it is believed that they were used to convey passengers to and from London and the ferry ports on behalf of P&O Ferries during the Railway dispute. |
